European climate law comes into force

The political intention of the European Green Deal to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 has been enshrined in law since June 24, 2021. The European Parliament had already reached an informal agreement with the member states on the European Climate Act on April 20, 2021. On June 24, 2021, the EU Parliament approved the tightening of climate targets by 442 votes to 203 with 51 abstentions. Greenhouse gases in the community of states are to be reduced by at least 55% below 1990 levels by 2030, and climate neutrality is to be achieved in the EU by 2050.
