Training about Greensteel
What you need to know
The invention of the steam engine in 1769 by James Watt changed the world in two ways: It made a decisive contribution to industrialization,
but it also ushered in the age of increasing fossil fuel consumption and the associated rise in CO2 emissions.
The dramatic effects are increasingly being felt around the world. The Paris Agreement is the first legally binding global climate change agreement,
with the goal of limiting the rise in average global temperature to 1.5°C.
The training provides an insight into the efforts of the European steel industry to achieve this goal and provides an overview of the political framework conditions. Crude steel production and the various solutions for CO2-reduced to fossil-free crude steel production of today and tomorrow will be looked at using informative examples.
In this context, some recurring terms are explained, e.g. the different "colors" of hydrogen, climate-positive, CO2-neutral, etc. Furthermore, the classification of company-related GHG emissions according to the GHG - Protocol is considered and discussed in a differentiated manner.
